A Lot of Lies’: Fernandes Responds to Reports of Carrick Disagreement
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has dismissed reports of tension between him and head coach Michael Carrick, saying that many false claims have circulated about their relationship in recent weeks.
Fernandes addressed the issue after United came from two goals down to beat Roma 3-2 on Tuesday, ending a run of nine matches without a win.
“There has been a lot of speculation in the media, and a lot of lies about things that happened between me and the manager,” Fernandes told Amazon Prime.
The 32-year-old had been left out of the starting lineup after publicly criticising Carrick’s tactics following United’s 4-1 defeat by Como.
However, he returned to the team for the Premier League loss to Chelsea before starting against Roma. Fernandes scored from the penalty spot in the 58th minute, helping United begin their second-half comeback.
He said he had already discussed the disagreement with Carrick and accepted the manager’s decision to leave him on the bench.
Fernandes added that even if the decision had been a punishment for his public comments, Carrick was entitled to make it because selecting the team was his responsibility.
He also insisted that the situation had not affected his confidence in the manager, coaching staff or his teammates.

Asked whether the victory over Roma could save Carrick’s job, Fernandes said the team was not playing to protect anyone’s position but to help the club recover.
Former Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel praised Fernandes’ comments, saying he hoped both men could move past the public disagreement and focus on winning matches.
